We are commanded, in Romans 12:2, to “be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The Christian life is a battle for our minds! And the only way that we can renew our minds is through meditation upon God’s Word.
Meditation is a mental process through which Scripture is memorized, visualized, and personalized. (However, I like the illustration of a cow chewing its cud much better!) It is just not enough to read God’s Word, or study God’s Word, or even memorize God’s Word. All of those are necessary and very important but they should lead us to meditating upon God’s Word.
What are the benefits of meditating upon God’s Word? Look up the following verses of Scripture and try to find out for yourself in preparation for my adult Sunday school class this coming Sunday morning.
- Proverbs 4:7-8
- Joshua 1:8
- Psalm 1:1-3
- Romans 12:2
- Isaiah 55:8-9
- Psalm 119:97-100
